PRAYER FOR WEEK 14 – RESTORATION OF DIVINE ORDER IN FAMILIES

(31 May – 6 June 2021)

PART 1: RESTORING THE MARRIAGE COVENANT

(Marriage is central to God’s divine order. Use these prayers to pray for your own marriage or for someone you know. If you are not yet married pray for couples you know e.g. children, singles, divorced families / can pray for marriages in friends or family members.)

Almighty God, in Your Word, You said:

6 … from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.’

7 ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,

8 and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh.

9 Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”  (Mark 10:6-9 NKJV)

  • Almighty God, You are a covenant keeper and You modelled everlasting covenant to us through Your Son Jesus Christ who laid down His Life for the Church, the Bride of Christ.
  • Lord, we bring every marriage before You. We bring every marriage under the Covenant Blood of Jesus Christ. We thank You for the victory over the works of the enemy through the finished work of the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • We ask for You to contend for all marriages against the work of the devil who is out there to steal, kill and destroy marriages and families. What You have joined together, let no one separate.
  • Empower every married couple by Your Spirit to build a marriage that honours You where there is love, faithfulness, submission, honour, forgiveness, kindness, patience and graciousness towards one another.
  • Where there are hurts and offences, help them to forgive one another. Enable them to be rooted and established in Your love and let love cover a multitude of sin. May their marriage be a role model, leaving a godly legacy, impacting their children and their children’s children.

Lord, today we join as one voice to ask that all marriages in our churches will be restored to God’s divine order.

  • We pray Lord that husbands will love their wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her; and not be harsh to them (Ephesians 5:25, 28; Colossians 3:19).
  • We pray that husbands will not divorce their wives (1 Corinthians 7:11), and will be considerate to their wives so that nothing will hinder their prayers (1 Peter 3:7).
  • We pray Lord that wives will submit to their husbands in everything as the church submits to Christ (Ephesians 5:22, 24).
  • We pray that wives will show respect to their husbands (Ephesians 5:33) so that even unbelieving husbands may be won over without words when they see the purity and reverence of their lives. (1 Peter 3:11).
  • We pray that wives will arise to bring their husbands good, not harm all the days of their lives. They will speak with wisdom and faithful instruction is on their tongues. We pray that they will watch over the affairs of their household with wisdom and the fear of the Lord. (Proverbs 31:26-28, 30).

Almighty God, we thank You that by Your Spirit You will empower every married couple to stay faithful to each other and to their marriage covenant. We pray that as they come together to pray and seek You together their home will become a light in the darkness that others will see.

In Jesus’ Name we ask and pray. Amen.
