PRAYER FOR KELANTAN
Brief information about Kelantan.
- Capital of Kelantan is Kota Bharu.
- Kelantan is translated as the “Land of Lightning”.
- An agricultural state with green paddy fields, rustic fishing villages and a number of beaches.
- Kelantan’s relative isolation and largely rural lifestyle result in Kelantanese culture that differs from the Malay culture in the rest of the peninsula. This is reflected in the cuisine, arts and the unique Kelantanese Malay language.
- Population of Kelantan is about 2.1 million (2018).
- The Japanese first landed in Kelantan during their invasion of Malaya on 8 December 1941.
In 1943, Kelantan was transferred by the Japanese to Thailand and became a province of Thailand. Kelantan reverted to Malaya upon the end of World War II in August 1945.
Kelantan became part of the Malayan Union in 1946 and then the Federation of Malaya on 1st February 1948, and together with other Malayan states, attained independence on 31 August 1957. On 16 September 1963, Kelantan became one of the states of Malaysia.
- Church and Spiritual Leaders
- Pray for the 15 churches in Kelantan including the OA Ministry in the districts of Kuala Krai and Gua Musang. Pray for encouragement, perseverance and endurance to serve.
- Pray for a common vision to serve the communities in towns.
- Pray for revival fire to rekindle the spirit of every believer from different churches to be of one accord, to stand united and to have a kingdom mindset.
- Pray for open doors to set up and expand prayer altars and cells in each kampung, town and district in Kelantan.
- State Government and State situation
- Pray for the EXCO members in Kelantan, and for every government department in each district in Kelantan.
They will serve with righteousness and transparency. The fear of God be upon them in setting up rules for the state.
Let justice prevail as they make decisions, let it be fair to all races.
- They will have wisdom and knowledge to be good stewards in handling the funds provided by the Federal Government – that it will be channeled to build and maintain roads, bridges and rails.
- There is a great concern for Kelantan social ills. Please pray for:
- High rate of drug addiction
- High rate of divorce
- High unemployment rates
- Incest Taboo
- Mat Rempit problem
- Poverty
- Superstitious beliefs
- Young Generation
- The young generation have left the state for greener pastures in the big cities (for example – they found jobs, got married, bought houses and brought their parents over).
- Pray for God’s blessing to be on our young generation (believers and pre-believers), that they will have the burden to come back to serve.
- For more infra-structure projects to be established in Kelantan to create job opportunities for our young people so that they do not need to leave their home town to find work elsewhere, causing a huge vacuum in the churches in Kelantan.
- Pray for divine protection against drugs, computer games and all unhealthy activities that influence and attract them. Pray also against deception through listening to the wrong teachings in the social media.
- May the spirit of God lead and guide our young generation (believers) to be courageous to witness for Jesus without fear of man.
- Political Background
Please intercede for breakthrough in the following matters:
- Kelantan has been ruled by PAS since 1990.
Almost all PAS members are Malay Muslims, as are about 95% of Kelantan’s population.
- For years, PAS has attempted to impose a strict interpretation of Islamic Law on Kelantan. It has succeeded in imposing certain social strictures such as single-sex queues in supermarkets, separate public benches for men and woman, and limiting entertainment centers to prohibit “salacious behavior”. Proposals to institute punishments such as amputation of limbs for thievery and execution for blasphemy (known as Hudud Law) however, have been blocked by the federal government on constitutional grounds.
- One of the most controversial steps PAS has taken in Kelantan is to place tough restrictions or outright bans on the traditional performance of syncretic Malay theatrical forms, such as Wayang Kulit, Mak Yong, Dikir Barak and Main Puteri.
- PAS has also taken action to eradicate any sculpture that looked like human or animal, modified versions without any traditional references to Hindu “dewa-dewi” and traditional Malay “hantu”.
- Public performances by women are restricted.
- Punishment by Syariah law on moral and social issues seem to target Muslim women eg. not wearing Hijab (headscarves), found consuming alcohol and caught in acts of intimacy, crime etc.
- OAs
- Pray for pastors and full-time workers serving in this ministry to have perseverance and endurance.
- Pray the OAs will be well treated and believers to grow in Jesus and share the gospels to their community.
- Pray for revival among the various tribes especially in the Gua Musang district.
Thanksgiving
- We thank God for all the pastors and spiritual leaders for their obedience to heed God’s calling to serve in Kelantan.
- In spite of different language groups, cultures, denomination backgrounds and doctrines, the spiritual leaders are able to meet and fellowship with one another in the Kelantan Pastors’ Fellowship.
- We thank God for believers from different churches – that they have a kingdom mindset to serve in the various ministries (Kelantan Disaster Relief Network, Prison Fellowship M’sia, Elshaddai to name a few).
Prayers for Kelantan
- We plead the precious blood of Jesus to cleanse and sanctify the land of Kelantan.
- We pray for the demonic forces of darkness to diminish, and we invite the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ to shine and deliver the people from being deceived and kept in captivity.
- We pray for God’s warring angels to come and fight the spiritual battle for us in the state. Many are in spiritual darkness and we pray that people will be set free.
- We pray for the wall separating church denominations to collapse, no more wall separating the churches in towns. May the Spirit of God bind us together with cords that cannot be broken. Pray for every believer to come out from their shells and comfort zones to fellowship with one another and to actively serve the community.
- We pray and ask for our Lord Jesus’ shield of protection against the fiery darts of the enemy.
DECLARE:
- We declare the Lord Jesus is our pastors’ Fortress, Deliverer, Protector,
Provider, Healer and Comforter.
- We declare all pastors and church leaders in Kelantan to be strong, healthy and in good spirit. The joy of the Lord will be their strength.
- We declare God’s presence will be their Firewall.
- We declare no weapon of the enemy will be able to attack our pastors, church leaders and their families. Lord, keep them safe from accidents and sicknesses! May they remain faithful till the end and never give up their ministries.
- We declare they will always hear the voice of God to lead and guide them and they will walk in intimacy with our Lord Jesus.
For those who are weary and discourage, they will come to wait upon the Lord, to renew their strength, so once again they are able to mount up with Wings as Eagles (Isa 40:31).
- We declare the light of our Lord Jesus to shine upon the heavy dryness in the spiritual realm in Kelantan.
- We declare it to be broken in Jesus’ name.
In Jesus’ wonderful and mighty name we pray, Amen.
