PRAYER FOR NATION – STATE ELECTIONS

 

Prayer for the 6 states undergoing state elections this year:

Father Lord, we praise Your Holy Name for you reign above all authorities. We know that there is no authority except that which is established by You (Romans 13:1). We now stand together to come before Your throne to ask that the state elections taking place in Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah, Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan will galvanise the saints of Malaysia to stand together for these states and to hunger and thirst for righteous State Assemblies.

 

We stand together to declare Psalm 24 in oneness.

The earth (Malaysia) is the Lord’s, and all its fullness,
The world (Malaysia) and those who dwell therein.
2 For He has founded it upon the seas,
And established it upon the waters.

7Lift up your heads, O you gates (of Malaysia)!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.

The Lord strong and mighty,

We welcome You, Lord Jesus, King of Glory into Malaysia. May Malaysia be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea! (Habakkuk 2:14)

 

A. VISION & PRAYER FOR THE STATE OF TERENGGANU

  1. Vision

That the people elected to rule Terengganu through this coming state election be politicians that genuinely love and care for the people here. Let the elected politicians be committed to lead this state to fulfil the vision and mission God has for Terengganu.

“Terengganu Darul Iman” – Let all the people residing in Terengganu find true faith in God and live in the power of God’s grace till they cross into eternity.

 

  1. Specific prayers for Terengganu

2.1    Economy: Pray for God’s wisdom and God’s favour for the leaders of this state to create more jobs and business opportunities to prosper this state.

2.2    Social & community needs: Pray for God to strengthen every family tie in order to withstand and be victorious over the social challenges faced by parents and children. Example drug abuse, divorce, unemployment, etc.

2.3    Education: Pray that more vocational colleges be set up in this state so that our young people do not need to travel too far to acquire basic skills to earn a living. Pray for resilience, patience and determination for both students and teachers to overcome problems posed by the glitches and breakdown in physical class teaching during the Covid years.

2.4    Church: Pray that the Christians will be strong in their faith and will rise up to shine amidst all the post-Covid challenges of living. Pray for God’s anointing for pastors and leaders to guide and encourage the members to move forward and finish the race that God has set for everyone.

 

B. PRAYER FOR THE STATE OF KELANTAN

  1. Current situation

In a recent Bernama report, Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat revealed that Kelantan recorded the highest number of criminal cases related to drug abuse with 3,683 cases last year. Cases involving sexual offences against children registered at the Kota Baru Sessions Court last year were worrying, with 59 cases recorded compared to only 18 cases involving sexual crimes against adults.

Media also reported that internet surfers from Kelantan had the dubious distinction of having topped the list for visiting pornographic websites in the country in the past.

It is also reported that the highest percentage of single mothers earning below poverty level are those residing in Kelantan and Pahang (both 79.2%).

 

  1. Specific prayers for Kelantan

We pray…

  • For the mind of Kelantanese to be opened, scales from their eyes to be dropped, hearts to be softened that they may have the hunger to seek the true and living God.
  • For more businesses to be opened, infra-structure projects to be approved to cater for people especially the young generations in Kelantan so they don’t have to move to the cities to find jobs.
  • Against the spirit of sleepiness and slumber, that it be broken over the believers and churches in Kelantan. We pray that the churches be united, pastors and church leaders be able to unite in fellowship with one another with a common vision to serve their various communities and to be the light and salt in Kelantan. May the Spirit of revival fire rekindle the spirit of every believer from different churches to be of one accord, to stand united and to have kingdom mindset.

 

C. SPECIFIC PRAYERS FOR THE STATE OF KEDAH

We pray for:

  1. Kedahans to balik kampung – for the out-of-state youth and young adults to come home to Kedah and work/serve here.
  2. Education & job opportunities – more schools / colleges will be built for higher education in the state, and that more avenues / vacancies for jobs to be created.
  3. Good governance – honest, fair, committed MB and leaders in the State Assembly.

 

D. VISION & PRAYER FOR THE STATE OF PENANG

  1. Vision

Revival catalyst and umbilical cord to carry/usher the revival for our nation.

 

  1. Specific prayers for Penang

We pray for:

  • God’s choice of candidates to stand for the upcoming state elections and be voted in, resisting all forms of extremism.
  • All schemes of darkness to be exposed and God’s light to come.
  • The statewide prayer-walk that churches and ministries are doing together in May, covering every constituency. May every team hear from God the prayer strategy for their area.
  • Wisdom and covering for the Penang Chief Minister and team to administer the state in righteousness, and also that Penang will have favour with the federal government for advancement of the state and to be a blessing to neighbouring states.
  • The water level to rise to safe levels in the Penang dam which have dropped to 50%.

 

E. PRAYERS FOR THE STATE OF SELANGOR

We pray for:

  1. A righteous MB as well as righteous state assemblymen and speakers to be elected who will represent the people well, knowing their needs and performing their duties with integrity, fairness, and equity. May God also bless the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, with great blessings from above, that all will to work together in unity and harmony for the good of the rakyat.
  2. A state legislative assembly that will preserve unity and good governance in the state, respecting human rights and enacting fair and righteous laws, preserving the welfare of the people, especially the poor and marginalised.
  3. The church to lead the way, being salt and light as we serve the poor and making a difference in the marketplace and various areas of influence. Being the richest state economically, and a melting pot of various cultures, pray that Selangor will be a state that upholds principles of integrity, generosity, unity and love, treating people with fairness, especially the migrants and refugees among us.

 

May God’s River of Life flow through this state, bringing healing to families, workplaces, and generations, that there will be healthy and positive cultures.

 

F. PRAYER FOR THE STATE OF NEGERI SEMBILAN

  1. Current situation

Negeri Sembilan is at a crossroads. On one side, there is a migration of people from the Klang Valley settling in NS as a suburb and traveling to KL daily. On the other side, there is a migration of younger people to KL / Singapore for studies and in search of better jobs.

 

Spiritually, there is still much darkness. May the light of Christ shine in, to remove all darkness, especially as the churches come together in unity to pray.

 

  1. SPECIFIC PRAYERS FOR NEGERI SEMBILAN

We pray for …

  • Oneness of heart amongst the churches to build the united prayer wall so that the light of Christ will dispel all darkness in the state. (Neh 4:6, Isa 62:6)
  • Open doors and hearts to testify to the goodness of God and to share the gospel.
  • The strengthening of mutual respect and openness towards different cultures and faiths, and any opposing agenda be removed.
  • Greater economic opportunities to arise so people can be retained and grow in local communities.
  • An alleviation of poverty, social vices, drugs and gangsterism.

 

General Prayers for all the 6 states regarding the state elections:

We stand together to pray that…

  • These state elections will be clean and fair, and we ask that You will send Your angels to guard over the spiritual atmosphere in this season leading to the election dates.
  • Your hand over all the different ethnic groups, so that there is a strong spirit of unity to vote for upright State Assemblies that uphold the Rukun Negara, rejecting religious and racial extremism.
  • Those who plot division and deceit will be removed, and the upright will be strengthened as they speak out for truth and justice. May they receive favour from God and man.
  • Righteous leaders who are leaders of integrity and fair to all races to rise up, caring for the B40 people group, giving equal opportunities of education, job opportunities and business permits to all.
  • The Election Commission will come up with wise, clear and well-planned SOPs, so that the whole election process will be fair, smooth, peaceful and orderly, free from corruption and bribery.
  • There will not be a rise in Covid cases.
  • Above all, the church of God in Malaysia will raise up as one, standing in the gap in unceasing prayers on behalf of these states and the land of Malaysia.

 

Lord, we now stand together in Christ to declare Ps 33: 8-11 over Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah, Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

Lord, let the whole world fear You, and let everyone stand in awe of You. For when You spoke, the world began! It appeared at Your command. Almighty God, frustrate the plans of the nations and thwart all their schemes. But Lord, may Your plans for Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah, Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan stand firm forever; may Your intentions for Malaysia never be shaken. In Jesus’ Name, amen!
