PRAYER FOR CRITICAL EVENT IN OUR NATION – STATE OF MELAKA
Hebrews 12:26-29 (NLT)
26 When God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise: “Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.” 27 This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakable things will remain. 28 Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe. 29 For our God is a devouring fire.
We are now living in the era of the shakings of the Lord as He shakes nations. We in Malaysia will not be spared. But God’s desire is that His people will be unshakable, and so partner with Him to see His purposes come to nations.
Let us stand together as per Matthew 18:18-20, and pray in agreement so that when “two of you on earth agree about anything we ask for, it will be done for them by our Father in heaven”.
- Prayer for State Elections on Nov 20th
On Oct 5th, the Dewan Undangan Negeri was dissolved, throwing the state into a political crisis that has caused a dissolution of the state assembly and a call for a state election in November.
Melaka is an important historical city with great heritage. Malaysia’s history is closely linked to Melaka’s history. What happens in Melaka will affect the rest of Malaysia. Let us all arise to join our brothers and sisters in Malacca to intercede for the state in this critical moment.
These are the prayer points to pray for Melaka regarding the state elections:
Father Lord, we praise Your Holy Name for you reign above all authorities. We know that there is no authority except that which is established by You (Romans 13:1). We now stand together to come before Your throne to ask that the state elections taking place on Nov 20th will galvanise the people of Malacca to hunger and thirst for a righteous State Assembly.
We stand together to pray that ….
- Malacca state elections will be clean and fair, and we ask that You will send Your angels to guard over the spiritual atmosphere in this season leading to the election date.
- We pray for the government to come up with wise, clear and well-planned SOPs so that there will not be an unacceptable rise in Covid cases.
- We pray for Your hand over all the different ethnic groups, so that there is a strong spirit of unity to vote for an upright State Assembly.
- We pray that those who plot deceit will be removed, and the upright will be strengthened as they speak out for truth and justice. May they receive favour from God and man.
- We pray, above all, that the church of God in Malacca will raise up unceasing prayers and stand in the gap on behalf of the land.
Lord we now stand together in Christ to declare Ps 33: 8-11 over Melaka
Lord, let the whole world fear You, and let everyone stand in awe of You. For when You spoke, the world began! It appeared at Your command. Almighty God, frustrate the plans of the nations and thwart all their schemes. But Lord, may Your plans for Melaka stand firm forever; may Your intentions for Melaka never be shaken.
- Pray for Melaka’s heritage as a Gateway City
- Francis Xavier was the first missionary to bring the gospel to Melaka in 1545.
- The London Missionary Society took over the mission work in Melaka; they sent two great men Robert Morrison (1782 to 1834) and William Milne (1782-1822). They translated the first Protestant Bible into Mandarin, both Old and New Testament, by 1818. It was first printed in 1823 in Melaka.
Lord, we thank You so much that You chose Melaka from the foundation of the world to be a gateway city for the gospel to come into our nation. We now stand together to watch over this gateway and for this gate to always stay open to the King of Glory.
- Lord we now stand together in Christ to declare Psalm 24 over Melaka
Lord, we declare Melaka is the Lord’s, everything in it and all its people belong to Him. You O Lord, have laid Malaysia’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths. We praise You O Lord, for such a great foundation.
So we declare, “Lift up your heads, you gates of Melaka; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is He, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty—He is the King of glory.” Come now O Lord, into the gates of Melaka!
- Pray for the Churches in Melaka – the “Ekklesia” of Melaka
- Christ Church in Melaka was the first Protestant Church built in the country by the Dutch in the 18th Century, and has the words John 1v1 -inscribed on the brass pulpit which is still there today. If you visit this church, you will find on its walls many testaments of godly men who lived there.
We praise You O Lord, that the foundations of the church of God in Melaka were laid down even before our nation was formed. We thank you O Lord, that for many years faithful men have stood faithfully in prayer over this awesome city. Now O Lord, raise the churches in Melaka to be united as the “ekklesia” of Christ, so that they can be given the keys of the kingdom to unlock the destiny of this city.
May the church of Melaka be strong, vibrant; rising to their call to be a positive influence in the midst of all the uncertainties. May the church of God in Melaka continue to trust in the Lord. May You raise up more church leaders, politicians, civil society leaders, civil servants, business and marketplace people who have a genuine concern for the welfare of the city.
As your people stand in the gap and intercede for this city, we declare that Your will be done in this city as it is decreed in heaven. We pray and declare that revival will come through this ancient door.
In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
